Refilling the BCI-3 or BCI-6 Cartridges

 These cartridges fill the same

Never allow the printer to sit without an ink tank in place for more than about 10 minutes. The air will dry the ink right in the printer causing a blockage.

Remove the cartridge from the printer. Either place the original clip back on the cartridge and hold it in place with a rubber band, or place a piece of scotch tape tightly over the outlet hole on the bottom.

It doesn’t show well, but I’ve marked the fill hole in the photo on the left.

Here you’ll see the fill hole just under the label. It’s located under the text “Made In Japan” A nylon ball has been inserted here.

The ball will not push in – you run the risk of damaging the cartridge – you must pull it out. Clean the label away from the hole exposing the ball.

Use the tool provided in your kit – the dowel with the screw end. The nylon ball is tough. Put the sharp point of the tool in the center of the ball and turn clockwise. As soon as you have dug into the ball a little bit, pull the ball out as shown on the left. Fill the cartridge with ink. Up to 12 CC's. Look at the first photo on the top left. See how the ink fills the sponge material and the open reservoir

Place one of the included allen head self-tapping screws into the hole and turn it clockwise into the hole until the top is flush with the top of the cartridge. The cartridge is now ready to be returned to the printer for use. Be very careful with the clip on the end which locks the cartridge in the head. It is fragile. If you break it off you will not be able to use the cartridge anymore.
